Aford member of Parliament Frank Mwenefumbo, who was beaten up by the party’s publicity secretary Norman Nyirenda, has agreed to withdraw an assault charge he filed at Mzuzu High Court.
A fortnight ago, police arrested and charged Nyirenda with common assault for attacking Mwenefumbo, who is also deputy health minister.
In a statement he authored and released on Thursday , Nyirenda said: “The case will be withdrawn provided I do not take any other action in whatever manner against him.”
The statement, signed by Nyirenda himself, Mwenefumbo, Aford interim president Dindi Gowa Nyasulu, secretary general Wallace Chiume and the party chairman for the Centre Chambwe Katsekela, the Aford publicity secretary says the violence happened because of misunderstandings on circumstances that led to the petitioning of the suspended president Chakufwa Chihana.
“As a result of these discussions, it has been agreed that I continue in my position as the publicity secretary of Aford, and that I cease to speak on behalf of the suspended president Hon Chakufwa Chihana,” he said.
Chihana was suspended on allegations that he was a “dictator, abuser of party funds” and that he was “a shame to Aford”.
