Nomads family shaken with exodus of players
by: Karen Msiska, 2/9/2005, 11:03:19 AM

A move by some MTL Wanderer’s players to exit the Lali Lubani outfit has caused a stir in the club with some supporters calling for the resignation of the executive committee which was elected barely two months ago.
Central defenders Allan Kamanga and James Sangala alongside goal tender Phillip Nyasulu are in Zimbabwe to join that country’s Monomotapa Football Club while defending midfielder Lawrence ‘Tico Tico’ Majawa looks set to join Army outfit Mafco.
There are also rumours going round that youthful goaltender Charles ‘Mkango’ Sikwewa has joined police outfit Blue Eagles.
A source within the nomads’ family confided in Nation Online on Tuesday that a high-level meeting has been set for Wednesday where the angry supporters will express their disappointment.
“A meeting where we the supporters are going to tell the executive about our disappointment with the exodus of the players is taking place at 4 pm on Wednesday. Some supporters say the executive must go but the players’ issue is going to take centre stage,” said the supporter.
Nomads supporters’ boss Yona Malunga confirmed the meeting with the executive but could not divulge more information.
“Yes, the meeting is taking place but I cannot tell you much about what is going to take centre stage there. I will have to seek more details,” said Malunga.
General Secretary Hannock Ng’oma played down threats of being forced out, saying the meeting is a regular one the executive holds with the supporters’ committee.
“The meeting is one of several meetings we hold with supporters committee where we update each other on issues affecting the team like new recruitments etc,” said Ng’oma.
“I have not heard about tomorrow’s meeting but if they say they want to sack the executive for players’ movements then its unfortunate because the executive not supporters deal with players who want to join other teams.”
He said the three players who went to Zimbabwe had the blessing of the club’s executive because they told the executive about their wishes adding only that their Zimbabwean counterparts, Monomotapa FC, “did not communicate to the nomads about the players’ trials.”
He said Sikwewa has been missing training without giving any reason but said there has been no word from Blue Eagles that the player is in the their camp.
Blue Eagles team manager Alan Kachingwe said in a separate interview on Tuesday that Sikwewa is not in their camp although rumour has been circulating even in the region that the boy has joined the police outfit.
“A player like Sikwewa cannot just come to train with us without prior expression of interest to join by any of the team’s officials. Because of the absence of such information I cannot say the boy is in our camp. Maybe he will report to training today,” said Kachingwe while revealing that their goaltender Simeon Kapuza has rejoined Escom.
On Majawa, Ng’oma said the club only regrets his departure but could do nothing to stop him since his father wanted him to join the army. He said a short-term replacement for the player has already been identified.
