Sulom advises Mponda to slow down
by: Garry Chirwa, 12/10/2004, 8:36:09 AM

The Super League of Malawi’s (Sulom) legal and disciplinary committee has advised former Bakili Bullets captain Peter Mponda to hold his patience and not rush into dragging his former club to court regarding the dispute surrounding his contract.
The committee’s chair George Bakuwa, who is also a lawyer by profession, has said the body is already working on the issue and Mponda’s move to take the club to court might only complicate the matter.
“I would advise him to exhaust all the necessary avenues before going to court. In fact Mponda and his manager Chris Kandulu have already submitted documents regarding his contract which he claims was breached by the Bullets.
“We wrote Bullets sometime back asking for the documents to support their claims that the player got all his dues and that the contract was not breached but we have not received anything up to now,” said Bakuwa.
He also said the committee asked the Sulom secretariat to remind Bullets of the same but nothing has come up.
“It’s unfortunate that Bullets are taking time to submit the documents but we will make a recommendation to Sulom on the issue in due course,” said Bakuwa.
Reacting to Bakuwa’s comments, Mponda said: “I earn a living through playing football and I am afraid the issue is taking time but I am ready to ease down a gear.
“Why is it that it’s taking Bullets ages to submit the documents, is it not sufficient proof that they don’t have them?” queried Mponda.
Mponda is also contending Bullets’ decision not to give him his share of the Bakili Muluzi Super League (BMSL) championship prize money.
