Kamwendo, Douglas in Silver’s camp
by: Leonard Sharra, 12/9/2004, 9:53:21 AM

Silver Strikers FC have delivered another body blow to MTL Wanderers, getting on board the nomads’ wonderboy Joseph Kamwendo and the 2004 Bakili Muluzi Super League (BMSL) top goal scorer Rodrick Douglas, who was in Wanderers’ plans for the coming season.
Kamwendo started training with the bankers on Tuesday while Douglas was seen in the company of the team’s faithful on the same day.
Commenting on the presence of the boys in his team’s camp, Silver’s vice chairman Patrick Uka said the players had crossed over to the reserve Bank sponsored side.
“They have joined us. We already got Kamwendo’s clearance from Civo after paying them K850,000 ($787) but we are yet to enter into discussions with Illovo on Douglas,” said Uka.
Asked whether his team did not get back the money from Civo after suing their city rivals for failure to pay back the K850,000, Uka said: “We never got back the money from Civo but I am afraid to talk much on this issue since it is still in court. You better talk to our lawyer (George Chioza) if you want more details.”
After taking their rivals to court, the bankers were issued with a garnishee order only to discover there were no sufficient funds in Civo’s accounts.
Wanderers’ general secretary Hanock Ng’oma said he was not aware that Kamwendo was in Silver’s court.
“I am not aware. You are the first person to tell me that. I am wondering why Silver should be dealing with Civo, but let me do my own inquiry and I will come back to you,” said Ng’oma.
Civo’s general secretary Richard Guga could not be reached for his comment, but he is already on record as having admitted that his side used the money from Silver.
Guga said his team was waiting to get K700,000 from Fam, which Wanderers claimed to have paid as transfer fee for Kamwendo. Fam admitted getting the money from Wanderers but the money has not reached the government sponsored side up to this day.
Fam also pocketed K100,000, which Silver paid as the association’s cut from the player’s deal. That money has also not been paid back.
