The National Bank of Malawi will soon introduce internet banking in addition to the electronic banking facility their customers are currently using, the bank’s chief executive officer Isaac Msamala has disclosed.
Msamala made this disclosure when he presented long service awards to 40 National Bank employees who have served the bank loyally and faithfully for the past 25 years to bring the bank to the present level.
“The world of banking is moving ahead and we need to be in step with world trends,” Msamala said. “We are now seeing that most of the customers in the global world are doing most of their banking via the internet.
“A lot of clients in developed countries hardly carry cash with them as most of the financial banking is done through credit cards, debit cards and telephone banking. We are working on introducing internet banking next year in addition to the electronic banking facility our customers are currently using,” Msamala said.
He said the National Bank is currently conducting an audit of its services and products to ensure “that we are not lagging behind”.
“We have started to provide products like home loans, flexible personal loans, motor vehicle loans, employer guaranteed as well as mortgage and home improvement loans.
“I am pleased that with effect from November 24 this year the Visa Card facility is now up and running. This will enable tourists visiting Malawi to cash from their overseas accounts in Malawi kwacha from our ATMs using Visa cards. This is a first in Malawi and if you say we are not the best then who is?” Msamala challenged.
The long service recipients received certificates and cash awards amounting to K35,000 each.
Congratulating them for a job well done, the CEO challenged them to clock another 25 years with the bank saying they can only achieve the feat if they make sure they do not contract the deadly HIV/Aids.
