Another personal assistant to vice president Cassim Chilumpha, a Mr Faki, was arrested on Monday.
This comes barely a day after Shaban Kadango, Chilumpha’s other personal assistant was nabbed by the police on Sunday.
Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Ishmael Wadi confirmed in an interview that Faki was arrested on Monday on allegations that he took part in the setting ablaze of an NDA vehicle at Parliament about one and half years ago where Kadango was also allegedly involved.
Wadi said Faki and Kadango are facing similar charges of malicious damage to a vehicle and assault causing bodily harm.
Faki was still in custody as of Tuesday, according to the DPP, while Kadango was fighting for his bail at the Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court.
A police source said Faki was arrested at the police station where he went to see Kadango in custody.
Said the source: “It was funny. They told him ‘it’s good that you have come because we were also looking for you’.”
Wadi the police are still hunting for several others, who are still at large, in connection with the matter.
