Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has commended the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) for making available the services of its employee Warrant Officer Class II John Kaputa, whenever the association is in need of the army coach’s help.
Fam’s second vice president responsible for technical affairs Steve Msambila extended his vote of thanks last Thursday, when he presided over the closing ceremony of a Grade C-licence coaching course, conducted at the army headquarters by Kaputa.
“Fam is very grateful to the army commander and his entire management for always making Kaputa available to us. As your employee, you could have confined him to army duties, but you have always allowed Fam to utilise the coach’s services. We hope you will continue offering the coach’s services to us,” said Msambila.
The Fam second vice president urged the participants to be role models in their clubs.
“For you to be good coaches you must be dedicated to your job. You must also show discipline because if you are not disciplined, your players will lack discipline as well,” advised Msambila.
Deputy Director of Training at the Defence Force headquarters Lieutenant Colonel Paul Phiri said the Defence Force was committed to maintaining its good partnership with Fam.
“We were pleased to see our soldiers and civilians learning together and sharing football knowledge. We are ready to offer the services of our coaches and we can also benefit from the services of civilian coaches,” said Phiri.
Phiri also hailed Kaputa for his perseverance.
“Kaputa has been humiliated and persecuted by the press, but he is always there to offer his services. If you are to become good coaches, you must borrow a leaf from him,” said Phiri.
A representative of the Malawi Defence Force coaches Alick Chirwa hailed Kaputa for conducting the course.
On his part Kaputa commended the participants for responding well to his lessons. He said those successful would be issued with C-licence certificates by Fam.
A total of 35 coaches from both within and outside the army attended the course, which was organised by the Defence Force in conjunction with Fam.
