Two Mozambican nationals who were arrested at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe Thursday for being found in possession cocaine will appear in court Monday.
Deputy Police Public Relations Manager Kelvin Maigwa said Sunday the two are currently in the hands of the police at KIA Police Station and will answer charges of importing dangerous drugs.
Meanwhile, Maigwa said the police got 104 pieces of cocaine from the two foreigners when they finished getting rid of it last Friday.
Initially the two, who were arrested immediately after disembarking from an Ethiopian Airways plane around 2PM Thursday, told the police that they had 80 pieces in their stomach, one 50 and the other one 30.
But Maigwa said Robert Vincete Mavila, who told them he had 30 pieces, got rid of 54 pieces at the end of the exercise while his friend Nordine squeezed out 50 pieces as he earlier said.
He said the Police took the cocaine to the Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board laboratory where it was confirmed that what the two were carrying cocaine. The drugs will be used as evidence in court.
The two were coming from Brazil and India and wanted to connect by road to Tanzania to deliver the cocaine, according to the police.
