Toastmasters club hosts MalawiCon | |
By: Kondwani Munthali | |
Malawian Toastmasters, a club for the art of public-speaking, recently hosted a contest dubbed MalawiCon, where members received different accolades. The conference also marked the independence of the Malawi’s club after forming two clubs. The club’s vice president responsible for public relations Daisy Kambalame made a winning speech. Vince Staples, an engineer, won two contests: Evaluation and impromptu-speaking while area governor Joe Likubwe was recognised as outstanding toastmaster of the year. Likubwe, who is also a branch manager with Commercial Bank of Malawi has been involved in the club’s activities for nearly 10 years. Peter and Barbra Barrat were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to the Toastmaster International in Malawi. Peter formed the first ever Toastmaster club in 1992. The club is presently in over 70 countries while locally two clubs are based at the Blantyre Sports Club. One meets every first Thursday of the month while the other meets every third Monday of the month. |
