Former Bakili Bullets and Flames midfielder cum defender Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda was on Thursday last week involved in a serious car accident at Phalula in Balaka District.
The accident happened around 6PM when He and his wife were returning to Blantyre from a private trip in Lilongwe.
Mponda on Sunday told Nation Online that he escaped with minor injuries—a minor cut on the arm while his wife sustained one on the elbow.
“We were overtaking a car which was towing another car and when we were almost half way through the overtaking process, another on-coming car in front of us was also overtaking another one.
“When we tried to avoid a head-on collision, our car rolled three times down the slope but by the grace of God, we were not seriously hurt,” said Mponda, who was travelling in his personal car.
The soccer star, who recently quit Bakili Bullets and signed for Zimbabwe’s premier side Caps United said his car was badly damaged.
“I hope I will only get the engine because the hood is in a very bad condition and I don’t think it can be repaired,” he said.
