After being removed from Football Association of Malawi (Fam) hot seat on flimsy grounds, former Fam president Geoff Gondwe is gunning for a come back as he dates Fam affiliates from the Central Region to unveil his plans.
Gondwe confirmed in an interview on Wednesday that he was meeting affiliates from the region which proposed his name for the Fam presidency. He disclosed he had already held a ‘mini’ caucus with some members from the Southern Region.
“I had a meeting with a delegation from Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) which paid me a courtesy visit and this Friday (today) I will be meeting all affiliates from the Centre. I want to thank them for showing trust in me and discuss some of the plans I have with them,” said Gondwe.
The meeting has been scheduled for 5pm at Lilongwe Community Centre.
The former Cosafa vice president, who was removed from Fam’s hot seat on grounds that he failed to control former Fam general secretary Gift Nyirenda who misbehaved during a Cosafa function in South Africa, said he would date the rest of affiliates from South and North after visiting the centre.
Unveiling some of his plans, Gondwe said he would work towards resuscitating the image of Fam by establishing strong sub-committees.
“Fam needs strong sub-committees and the committees have to be empowered. I have initiated a four year strategic plan which can be looked at and amended,” said Gondwe.
Others named on the list of aspirants are former Fam executive member Hastings Kapenuka, former MTL Wanderers secretary and team manager Walter Nyamilandu, former Fam treasurer Hubert Mfune and Sulom boss Henry Chibowa.
But Chibowa said he had not yet made his official stand as whether he will stand or not.
