Maduka, Mabedi arriving on Monday

Flames’ battle-scarred duo, captain Patrick ‘General’ Mabedi and midfielder John Maduka are expected to wing into the country on Monday afternoon from South Africa to join the national soccer team in preparation for this weekend’s joint Africa Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier against Kenya’s Harambe Stars in Nairobi.
But Fam general secretary Roosvelt Mpinganjira said on Sunday that Danemark-based big defender Clement Kafwafwa and another South African-based midfielder Peter Mgangira have since been ruled out.
Mpinganjira said Mabedi and Maduka are scheduled to proceed to Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu later on in the evening to join the rest of the squad.
“But Kafwafwa and Mgangira have been ruled out because their respective clubs did not respond to our request to have them for the game.
“Kafwafwa told us verbally that his Danish club had given him the green light but in absence of written communication we could not proceed with his travel arrangements.
“As for Mgangira, his club did not say anything on whether it would release him. Cosmos only responded on Russell Mwafulirwa that he would be given the greenlight to come,” said Mpinganjira.
Meanwhile Mwafulirwa arrived in the country on Saturday after undergoing trials in Russia while Essau Kanyenda is expected to join the team in Nairobi on Wednesday.
