BB owe Mpingwe K160,000

Mpingwe Lodge of Blantyre is contemplating taking legal action against Bakili Bullets for owing it K160,000.
But Bakili Bullets say they are not aware of the debt.
According to the lodge’s proprietor Tobias Mchawa, the debt dates back to 1999 when the club accommodated two of their players at the lodge without paying.
“We agreed that they would pay us later on and until now they have not yet settled the bill. They paid some money in 2000 but the remainder was K160,000. And with interest, the debt is likely to be more than that,” said Mchawa.
He said he has taken the issue to sheriff.
“I think we are just victims of BB’s injustice because we have been going to their offices where Yusuf Matumula [BB trustee] was not straight forward on the money,” he said.
But Bullets vice treasurer Kondi Msungama said in an interview his office does not have any records relating to the issue.
“That time, we had a different administration but even our administration does not have records showing any debt to Mchawa. We have also not received any letter or reminder on the issue,” said Msungama.
But Bullets general secretary Ophman Kondowe was once quoted in the media as saying most of the K15 million, which their sponsor Bakili Muluzi gave them as initial sponsorship, was used to settle debts including the K160,000 to the lodge.
