Coke finals on Sunday

The finals of the K1.6 million Coca Cola Schools Soccer Challenge kicked-off on Friday with six divisional select teams battling out for honours at the giant Chichiri Stadium.
The preliminaries were played on Friday in which the six teams were divided into two groups A and B.
In Group A there was Central West, Shire Highlands and North while in Group B there was Central East, South West and South East.
Six matches were expected to take place. The Central West Division was scheduled to take on Shire Highlands in a first Group A match while Central East took on South West in an opening group B match, Shire Highlands were expected to lock horns against the North in a second Group A match.
South West took on South East in a second Group B encounter, Central West took to the turf against North in the last group A match while Central East played against South East in the closing Group B contest.
The semis are scheduled for Saturday morning with the winner in Group A taking on runners-up in Group B while the winner in B’ will take on runners up in A. The games are scheduled to start at 8AM
The final and third place match will be played on Sunday from 1PM
Coca Cola is sponsoring schools soccer for the 37th time, the inaugural show was held in 1968. From 1968 to 1998 the tournament was organised by Fam but the Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) took over the show in 1999.
South West are the defending champions. They won the trophy last year after edging Central West 2-1 in Lilongwe and the player of the tournament was Peter Wadabwa currently with Silver Strikers.
The showcase has produced such big names like Joseph Kamwendo, Rahim Ishmail, Wadabwa, Noel Mkandawire, Grant Lungu, Emmanuel Chipatala, Mapopa Musukwa, Nafe Msasa, Jafari Saizi, Alex Kamanga, Prince Chihana, Robert Ng’ambi, Jacob Ngwira, Gift Makoloni, Noel Kaole and Evance Lorenzo.
