Sulom snubs Bakili Bullets

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) on Thursday turned its back on Bakili Bullets’ request to postpone their weekend Bakili Muluzi Super League (BMSL) fixtures against Mzadd Rangers and Mafco at BAT Ground in Blantyre owing to fatigue.
Bullets’ chair Hassam Jussab said on Thursday morning that they had asked Sulom to give them a break on their weekend games because the players were tired having arrived in the country on Wednesday afternoon from Nigeria where they lost 6-0 in a group A match of the Caf Champions League.
“The boys need a good rest before they can play another competitive match and we have asked Sulom to postpone our league games,” said Jussab.
But Sulom’s general secretary Chris Kamphinda Banda claimed that the Bullets had changed their tune following a telephone conversation which he had with Jussab later on Thursday.
“I indeed spoke to Mr Jussab on the issue, he insisted that we should postpone their games due to the players’ fatigue but I reminded him about the crammed nature of their diary which includes both local and international fixtures.
“I told him that Bullets have quite a number of games in hand and we will create a difficult situation if we keep on postponing their games,” explained Kamphinda Banda.
He added: “I then suggested to him that we would soften up and postpone the Saturday game and not both to which he accepted but upon consulting the technical panel, Mr Jussab came back to me just a couple of minutes ago to say they will fulfil both games and therefore both games are on.”
