The Guinean national team was briefly detained at Lilongwe Hotel yesterday morning following a bout between two unidentified players which led to some tumblers, plates and saucers being broken.
Fam executive member McCollins Chibvunde who was at the scene of the incident, said the two players argued at length in French before exchanging blows.
“One of them suffered a cut on his head after being hit with a tumbler. It seems they were arguing on a woman one of them took to the hotel,” said Chibvunde.
The Fam official said Guinean and Fam officials as well as hotel personnel acted swiftly to calm the situation.
Chibvunde said the home team paid for the broken tumblers, plates and saucers.
Just two days before the game, the team’s French coach Neveu Patrice was also involved in a brawl with one of the players during training.
“One of the players head-butted the coach after an exchange of verbal crossfire and training was called off immediately by the officials,” said Chibvunde.
The team’s leader of delegation Muhammed Camara confirmed the incidents and said the association will discipline all those that were involved in the nasty incidents upon arrival at home.
“You don’t wash your dirty linen in public. It’s unfortunate that there were such incidents, we are going to punish anyone who will be found guilty after investigating the issues,” said Camara.
To make matters even worse, two of their players Keita Alseny who plays in Belgium and Keita Muhammed missed Saturday’s game after arriving late.
The two players arrived half-way the second half.
