Organisers, patrons happy with Miss Malawi show

Events Management Limited, the company behind this year’s Miss Malawi pageant, says the show was successful, thanks to thorough preparations both financially and otherwise.
Chairman of the organising committee, Carver Bhima said in an interview this week the contestants came out nicely, the decorations were beautiful and most importantly, the show was highly patronised.
“It’s always a pleasure to see the interest the public is developing in such shows. It indicates that the shows are acceptable to the greater majority of the general public,” said Bhima.
He also said he was happy with the judges’ choice of the winner, but said “the only snag is that she (the Miss Malawi) has a disadvantage in height.”
He, however, bemoaned the tendency for patrons to come late which this year resulted in the show starting a little over an hour later than the scheduled time. Bhima said another disappointment was the music which he felt was not up to the expectations of the patrons.
“The music was distorted and it was not coming out clear. However, these are areas of improvement next year,” he said.
Asked whether or not the presence of the Big Brother housemates could have been a factor in the patronage, Bhima said: “It is most likely that the patronage was as it was because of the presence of the housemates. But I would not be surprised if the same enthusiasm would have been there even without the Big Brother Housemate around.”
One of the patrons at the show, Sala Gambino felt the show was good because she got to talk to two of the big brother housemates.
“I went there mainly to meet Gaetano and Abby and I had my chances. They even signed autographs,” said Gambino.
An random interviews with the patrons revealed that most of them enjoyed the way the show was run and that they were happy with the choice of the winner.
“The show was nice and I was happy because all the winners in the top three are the ones that I had anticipated to win,” said another patron, Kondwani Nyirenda.
Bhima thanked all the sponsors who supported the show although he said some pulled out at the last minute.
“Right now we are preparing for the Miss World pageant. We will make sure we have money available for the beauty queen to participate in the contest,” he said, further hinting that they are also seeking a Miss Universe franchise.
