Week four of the K16.5 million ($155,660) Bakili Muluzi Super League (BMSL) is gone and indeed it is proving to be very tough, exciting and unpredictable.
First losses for MTL Wanderers and Silver Strikers, first full points for Civo, Moyale and Super Escom, maximum points for Dwasco, that’s how the scripts recorded the events at the close of the fourth week.
Dwasco can claim team of the week accolade, having fully utilised home ground advantage to collect maximum points following victories against Mzadd and MTL Wanderers.
On Saturday they beat hapless Mzadd 3-0 through goals by Joel Chipofya and Denis Nyirenda who claimed a brace. The next day they came from behind two goals down against MTL Wanderers to snatch victory. Six points bagged for the Dwangwa-based sugermen at the end of a glorious week.
Dwasco have 10 points now from six games and swap positions with the nomads who drop to sixth position with nine points from the same number of games.
The Wanderer’s trip to the Centre yielded a single point having drawn one-all against Civo on Saturday.
At the summit now is Bakili Bullets, who together with Blue Eagles have 14 points but the former with a superior goal aggregate occupy the top spot. The Bullets have also played a game less than the law enforcers who have played seven games. The cops were on bye.
Moyale and Super Escom both collected their first full. Moyale beat Illovo 3-1 on Saturday. Super Escom had their turn to beat the sugarmen 1-0 on Sunday. Victor Phiri was on target twice and John Dausi scored the other goal which gave the Mzuzu based soldiers three point despite Illovo replying once through Fakinala James.
They returned to base with four points having held MDC United to a one-all draw in Chilomoni on Sunday. Victor Phiri scored for Moyale and Prince Chihana did like wise for the Soccer Saints.
Chimango Mpinganjira’s goal gave the powermen their first victory on Sunday leaving Illovo in deep mourning.
Both MDC United and Moyale have six points but the latter have played six games one more than the Saints.
Mixed fortunes for the principal bankers, Silver Strikers who on Saturday conceded their first goal in their 1-2 win over Red Lions and fell to a first half goal by Alick Lihuhu on Sunday in their match against Admarc Tigers at Chichiri Stadium.
From seven games they remain on third position while Kau Kau move to seventh position with 8 points.
Mzadd woes in the elite league continue since on Sunday they got beaten again by a lone goal scored by Gerald Nkungula in their match against Civo. The civil servants collected their first full points with this win.
108 goals have now been scored. Joel Chipofya of Dwasco is now three goals short of catching up with Lewis Mbetewa the current top scorer with nine goals. All is not good for Mzadd who have lost all seven games they have played in which they have scored a single goal but have let in 12 goals.
