The record of Catherine Chikwakwa’s success in athletics activates itself everytime she participates in any race.
The Malawi’s top female athlete performed wonders again when she beat other athletes from Europe and Africa towards the end of the just ended year in the cross-country season currently on in Europe.
According to Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) general secretary Haxon Chapasa, Chikwakwa participated in three races on December 21, 28 and 31.
Chapasa said on December 28 Chikwakwa was number one in a Saosivester race that took place in Germany after finishing a 10km distance in 33 minutes and 22 seconds. The race attracted runners from Kenya and Ethiopia —African countries respected in athletics.
And on December 31, she won a bronze medal after finishing position three in a 5km race that also took place in Germany.
Chikwakwa was also number 10 in a 6km ladies’ race that took place in Brussels, Belgium on December 21. This race attracted many athletes from Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, Norway and France.
According to Chapasa, time was not indicated on Chikwakwa’s performance sheet during the December 21 race.
“That is very encouraging. Chikwakwa is small in appearance but very tough in action. Even her manager [Dorothee Paulmann] is satisfied with her,” said Chapasa.
