Football Association of Malawi’s big fish including its president Sameer Suleman, failed to meet National Sports Council’s Friday deadline to submit their Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE).
The new Fam constitution provides that all the executive members should have a minimum qualification of an MSCE or its equivalent but only four out of the nine newly elected executive members had submitted their certificates to the Council by Friday.
According to Council, the two veeps Anderson Zimba and Steve Msambila also failed to hand in their certificates. Two executive members Peter Chavula and Raphael Humba also failed to meet the call off point.
The Council’s executive secretary George Jana said the four who submitted their certificates prior to the elections in Mzuzu were the ones who also surrendered their papers before the deadline.
“When I was leaving my office for Mangochi on Friday, only McCollins Chibvunde, Flora Mwandira, Pikawo Ngalamira and Joseph Mapwesera had handed in their certificates,” said Jana.
Quizzed on what will happen next, Jana said: “The general assembly agreed that those that did not submit the certificate should be given seven days to do so and it further agreed that those that would fail to hand in the said certificates by (last) Friday would automatically surrender their positions and I assume that is what is going to happen.”
However, Suleman said he does not see the reason why the issue of certificates is being pursued.
“Although it’s up to Council to decide on the issue but I see no reason why the issue of certificates should be pushed. They should leave us alone so that we can set to work on rebuilding the new Fam.
“To me the new Fam team is good and we can work together very well and not the other team which others want. If this other team is forced on us I’ll be forced to resign,” said Suleman, who could not be drawn to comment on why he did not hand in his certificate.
Msambila echoed his boss’ sentiments saying the newly elected executive will meet Council to sort out the issue of certificates once and for all.
“We are planning to meet Council to leave the floor open because as we said, that provision is segregative,” said Msambila.
Msambila also said he failed to beat Friday’s deadline date because he was trying to get another certificate from Maneb offices in Zomba having lost his original certificate.
“Unfortunately when I went to Maneb offices on Friday, they were having their end of year party so I could not get it, but I hope to get the certificate on Monday,” said Msambila.
Chavula stressed on Friday that he would not hand in his certificate while Zimba and Humba assured that they would send theirs by Friday but by close of business their certificates had not reached Council’s in-tray. ,Football Association of Malawi’s big fish including its president Sameer Suleman, failed to meet National Sports Council’s Friday deadline to submit their Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE).
