British American Tobacco (BAT) Malawi on Friday celebrated the success of its Peter Stuyvesant cigarette brand with a night of fun for its customers at Sunset Plaza in Blantyre with a promise to continue supporting adult smokers with fine products and high quality promotional activities.
BAT marketing manager Lovemore Manatsa said his company will also continue to support the Malawian society through a range of donations and initiatives as a way of ploughing back to the society that has made its business grow.
“We shall continue to demonstrate a real commitment to Malawi society; and, of course, commitment to the Malawi economy as a major taxpayer to government,” he said during the function graced by BAT Southern Africa Area Manager Phil Marshal.
Just like at a similar Peter Stuyvesant escapade in Lilongwe the previous week, beer flowed, smoke filled the air as excited customers feasted and wriggled their bodies on the dance floor to a variety of local and international dance tunes.
BAT brands and research executives Tiwonge Newa said Peter Stuyvesant brand has registered tremendous growth in sales over the past three years hence the gesture to thank the customers who contributed to the brand’s success.
“Peter Stuyvesant has organised this smokers’ exclusive event as a token of appreciation for the support you have given to the brand over the three years,” Newa said.
To spice the fun there was a raffle draw where one patron Patrick Bokho won an Aiwa DVD player valued at K50,000 while 60 other invited guests went home with vouchers to get one CD each of their choice from Consumer Electronics Services.
Bokho, who said he was “very excited to win the DVD player”, celebrated with a jive on the dance floor surrounded by most of the 25 beauties hired to serve the patrons.
Manatsa said BAT brands are sold in 180 markets worldwide and enjoy market leadership in more than 50 countries while employing over 80,000 people. He said BAT will continue to provide a focused brand portfolio communicated through state-of-the-art adult smoker engagement programmes.
“Here in Malawi, our vision is to maintain our market leadership position in both qualitative and quantitative sense,” he said.
