Darts Association of Malawi (Dam) will stage its richest tournament, the K1.3 million national Carlsberg darts finals at the prestigious COMESA Hall in Blantyre on October 11 and 12, it has been learnt.
Announcing this in Mzuzu, Dam general secretary Kezzie Musukwa said this will be the 20th year that Carlsberg Brewery Limited has successfully sponsored and helped to improve darts standards countrywide.
“Mzuzu were supposed to host the big event but it has been shifted to Blantyre because the sponsors requested for a proper venue as they will be commemorating the 20th year of the competition’s sponsorship, and in Dam’s view, the best venues are in the country’s commercial city of Blantyre,” Musukwa said.
During the two-day tournament, which will see the best teams from the country’s three regions battle it out for honours. The North will feature three teams because they were supposed to be the host region, according to the general.
Defending champions MA Motors of Lilongwe are favoured to retain the title, having emerged champions in another major tourney the Royale Chemicals Trophy which drew seven teams from across the country.
