My Prediction
by: Leonard Sharra, 9/12/2003, 2:37:04 PM

Week of judgement
Last week I suffered from high blood pressure (BP) after being defied by the teams participating in the BP Top 8 competition. None of the clubs in Top 8 action lived up to any of the four predictions I made last week.
For your information, my BP rose from 37 to 96 litres (Forgive me if I have got the units wrong— I am not a doctor).
However, with the staggering K5m prize that has been staked for the winner, I will not blame my plight on any team. I will join those who are blaming BP Malawi for putting such a huge prize at stake. It’s because of the huge stakes going along with this competition that none of the eight teams wants to leave the stage at early.
In the same vein, I am against the punishment meted out on Bakili Bullets and its caretaker coach Meke Mwase by Fam. The association should have known that it is the K5m prize that is causing players, officials as well as supporters blood ‘to run high’ (kuthamanga magazi). For this reason, Fam could have understood the circumstances that forced Mwase to behave that way— ‘his blood was simply running fast’.
But whether the participating teams like it or not, half of them will be left behind this week after running out of fuel. And my noble duty this time will be to declare on behalf of Fam and the sponsors the teams that will leave the stage.
In Group A, Blue Eagles and MDC United, who refused to die last week, will finally collapse as Moyale Barracks and Bakili Bullets cruise to the semi finals.
The real battle is in Group B, where anybody is standing a risk of being evicted. My Prediction, however, is that MTL Wanderers and Admarc Tigers will go through to the semis. Congratulations to matimu okhala ku Blantyre koma okhala mothinana for making it to the semis en masse. As for matimu okhala ku fumbi city, kwanu ndikutuwa basi.
