Unbelievable
Unbelievable! Damn incredible! I do not want to appear hysterical or emotional but I think the decision by some Fam executive members to condemn the report of the Commission of Inquiry to the dustbin for the simple reason that it was leaked to the press is not believable. It is as if one is watching a comic movie. Here is the situation: Fam notices signs of financial mismanagement in their rank and file, they meet and decide on their own to get to the bottom of the matter by instituting a probe. The report is out and they themselves decide to trash it. But they rubbish it not by attacking its substance but using procedural matters as a scapegoat. Does the fact that the report was leaked change the allegation that colossal sums of taxpayer’s money were abused? If some of the accusations were frivolous and without proof, is proof going to be found or not found by trashing the report? The answer is a big NO! The only conclusion is that those who have decided that the report be trashed are also hiding something. They are afraid the report will open a can of worms.
That’s a lie
It is finally soothing that the lie which Fam, through their spokesman George Kaudza Masina, was trying to peddle has been exposed. Fam decided at its ill-fated meeting in Lilongwe that its former president John Zingale did not resign because, according to them, he never tendered his resignation to the association but just said it at a press conference. I think this argument, to say the least, demeans the intellect of all honest Malawians. Zingale was not president of the press to whom he was reading his statement of resignation. He was president of Fam. Whatever he said at the press conference was meant to be relayed to the world and this world includes Fam. Who is it that those in Fam are trying to hoodwink or fool? It is possible that some people within Fam or outside it, who might have benefited from Zingale when he was president of the association are trying to please him. This is not a problem because we all have our masters but we must not peddle lies in trying to appear good to our patron. It is good that Fifa, through their development officer Ashfold Mamelodi, has clinically put the matter to rest: Zingale’s public announcement about his resignation was enough. It has gone into Fifa books. May be, in fairness to Zingale, this could be reason he was noncommittal about what his cronies were busy plotting for him.
Continue the fight
My heart goes to all those Fam executive members in the likes of Young Chimodzi, Julius Mithi, McCollings Chibvunde and Steve Msambila who refused to be used and rubberstamp a decision by some Blantyre-based members of Fam to reject the report by the Commission of Inquiry. I am also behind Fam’s regional committees in the North and Centre who are also mobilising themselves to fight the decadence in Fam. We have had enough of it. Some people in Fam, together with their supporters outside it, would like to take football fans and the nation at large for granted. Their decision to trash that report speaks volumes about their inner motives. They must be stopped before they bring football in this country to its ultimate disaster. The people at Fam have no birthright to be there. They were put into those positions through a vote. They have failed terribly. They have committed countless blunders that I cannot even begin to count here. There is no reason for them to stay in Fam. Let them go. The efforts in the Centre and North must have this as a final goal.
