The move by Fam executives to nullify its own Commission of Inquiry report and call for the reinstatement of former president John Zingale may backfire if regional committees, who are now threatening to make next month’s Fam annual general meeting (AGM) one to be remembered, will have their way.
Leading the stoking of fire are affiliates from the Central Region, who are expected to gather at the Capital Lilongwe Community Centre on Saturday to map out a common strategy.
Confirming the meeting, Central Region Football Committee general secretary James Mwenda and LDFL chairman McCollins Chibvunde, who was a member of the Commission of Inquiry, said they wanted to get views on the current developments in Fam from stakeholders and come up with the region’s stand.
“We are meeting as stakeholders in the region to strategise what to do at the forthcoming AGM. We are not against anybody but we just feel we have to speak as a region and not as individuals,” said Chibvunde.
According to Mwenda, resolutions from the meeting, which starts at 9.00 AM will be presented to Fam secretariat for consideration at the AGM.
Before the Saturday meeting, the two officials said there would be another meeting involving Central Region-based Super League teams and football administrators at Kamuzu Institute for Sports starting at 4.00 PM.
“This one is a normal meeting. We normally meet clubs in the region to discuss their performance as well as preparations for the next season. Of course we will take advantage of the latest developments to hear the clubs’ stand. Super League clubs were being sidelined in the previous AGMs yet they suffer the worst consequences, when things go astray,” said Mwenda, who described the clubs’ response to the proposal as overwhelming.
A similar development is also occurring in the Northern Region where affiliates will also be meeting to strategise on a common goal.
“Over here, we will be meeting very soon. Myself and my colleague Mr (Peter) Chavula will be meeting general secretaries from affiliates in the North to arrange a meeting of all stakeholders here,” said MDFL chairman Julius Mithi.
The long awaited Fam AGM has been slated for next month end in the Southern Region but the exact date and venue are yet to be communicated by Fam secretariat.
