Part of the game
Through the Zambian High Commission, I would like to congratulate the Zambian national side for honouring last week’s prediction which said the Chipolopolo boys would beat the Black Mambas of Mozambique to reach the Cosafa Castle Cup semifinal.
However, I goofed when I said the Zambians would meet Zimbabwe in the semis with Malawi dating Swaziland. The Zambians will be coming again for another semifinal date with the Flames.
From the Castle Cup, lets try our own beer. The issue that has been making headlines in newspapers and radio sports programmes is the withdrawal of the Carlsberg Cup final involving MTL Wanderers and Bakili Bullets by Carlsberg Breweries.
If fact, the Football Association of Malawi is currently in hot soup following the decision by Carlsberg. The local FA announced this week that it had set up a committee to plead with the sponsors to reconsider their position.
While Fam officials are keeping their fingers crossed, the column has some good news for them: When it was being said that “Carlsberg is probably the best beer in the world” a few other people might have had their doubts.
But with what has happened in this year’s Carlsberg trophy competition everybody should now be convinced that Carlsberg is really the hottest beer.
All the controversies or revelations we are discussing now have come about because of the Carlsberg Cup. The Carlsberg Cup came because of the Carlsberg beer. What has been happening is just part of the game and Fam’s request for a Carlsberg final rematch will be considered by the sponsors. The final will be replayed.
