Maba to keep coach

Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) has disclosed that it will keep national boxing coach Anderson Kazembe after the expiry of his contract with Sports Council in August.
Speaking at the presentation of boxing equipment from International Boxing Association, (Aiba) to his association by Sports Ministry on Monday, Maba president Jerome Waluza said his association had found a sponsor to pay Kazembe’s salary after the expiry of the coach’s contract on August 31.
“We have already made arrangements with Sports Council that they should administer the coach’s salary. We will be giving them the money and since they know how to handle these issues, they will be making the payments on our behalf.
“We will also organise fundraising activities to raise more funds for our association,” said Waluza.
Sports Council Executive Director George Jana confirmed the development.
“Yes, they have made those arrangements with us and we will continue housing the coach,” said Jana, amid handclapping from Maba officials.
Waluza thanked the Sports Ministry for seeing to it that the equipment was handed to the right beneficiaries.
Sports Minister Henderson Mabeti said his ministry sourced the equipment after realising the hardships Malawian boxers were facing due to lack of appropriate equipment.
He urged Maba to use the equipment for the intended purposes.
“The boxers as well should make good use of the equipment and improve on their skills. I believe that from now onwards our boxers will be able to win more medals than before,” said Mabeti.
The equipment include 20 pairs of boxing gloves, ten pairs of boxing gym, six pieces of jumping ropes, two pairs of focus mitt special, six pairs of punching mitt tiger, six pieces of head guards, 24 pairs of boxing vest and shots, two pieces of punching bags and one piece of medicine ball.
