A celebrated Zambian reggae artist Ras Mute jets into the country today for a series of shows in Blantyre, local music promoter Jai Banda, alias Mr Entertainer said Tuesday.
Born Golden Mulishi Tembo, Ras Mute started his professional career with the Youth Inspiration Band of Lusaka in 1984.
In 1986, Ras Mute initially known as Inspector Mute trekked to neighbouring Zimbabwe to learn more about the Rastafari religion with the 12 Tribes of Israel.
He went solo a year later and played with several groups such as Maoma Band, Burning Youth, Ubangi Roots, Elders Vibration and recently the Wailing Roots.
Ras Mute runs a music promotion company Landlocked Music Centre which also runs a recording studio called Landlocked Studio both in Lusaka. He also runs a boxing promotions stable which last month organised an international boxing tournament in Lusaka which attracted, among others, Malawian boxers Chikoya Mphande and John Masamba.
In 1999, he recorded his debut album My Days Have no Meaning. He intends to record a follow-up album Jah Keep My Life soon and has formed a band Cease Fire Band.
The band also comprises celebrated former Burning Youth drummer Sam Zulu.
According to Banda, Ras Mute will hold performances at Admarc Club on Friday night, Premier Lodge on Saturday night and a concluding show on Sunday afternoon at the Blantyre Youth Centre.
