Cellular service pioneers Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) enters the market Wednesday with a new product known as Active 5 family and friends that gives postpaid users a chance to cut costs by almost half on calls made to any five numbers they call most in their social life.
TNM chief executive Nasir Baharom told the press in Limbe on Tuesday the facility will enable a postpaid customer who has registered five most called numbers within the network to enjoy a US$0.07 (about K6.50) reduction a minute from US$0.15 (about K14.00).
Baharom said a customer can register with any of the company’s branches both postpaid or prepaid numbers at no cost and the reduction will start applying on the customer immediately.
He said the company decided to come up with the facility on realising that customers also have a lot to say to their families and friends. He said although postpaid numbers are usually business lines, TNM recognises everyone has a social life to live.
“This is a very innovative package and we are very excited about it,” said Baharom. “It fits in the principle of a win-win approach.”
He said while customers will enjoy reduced rates, the company expects to increase its subscriber base by winning more customers to its network. TNM has an active subscriber base of 60,000 with a capacity to handle 100,000.
He said corporate customers can also link up as a group of individually regardless of them being in the Common User Group (CUG), another rate-cutting facility TNM launched a couple of months ago but is restricted to only those numbers within a company.
“Our system is not rigid. The registered numbers can be replaced at the option of the user provided one month billing is over after deregistering a previous number,” he said.
He said the Active 5 family and friends is a result of successes the company registered with the CUG.
