Super Cheetahs emerged winners of the Banja La Mtsogolo junior hockey tournament held last weekend at Lilongwe Muslim Sports Club.
Hockey development committee officer Eston Mtambalika, who recently drafted a successful four-year hockey development plan at a workshop held in Athens, Greece, said the aim of the tournament was to bring HIV/Aids awareness to the youth.
“The main focus was not competition but to spread the message about HIV/Aids among the school going youth through a hockey tournament,” said Mtambalika.
Mtambalika said such tournaments are useful because they prevent the youth from indulging in immoral acts which can lead to the dreadful disease.
There were boys’ teams which included Lilongwe Select, Chipasula Secondary School, Dzenza Secondary School A and B, Kamuzu Barracks A and B and the champions who received BLM T-shirts and hockey balls.
In the girls’ category there were only two teams Likuni and Lilongwe Girls Secondary Schools and Likuni scooped the first prize.
