Rumphi Police have arrested a 23-year-old tobacco tenant for allegedly raping and wounding his boss’s wife in her house at Kamwe Trading Centre in Mzimba.
Peter Phiri from Kabwere Village, Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba is said to have raped his employer’s wife during the night of June 3.
The Rumphi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday heard through prosecutor John Chugundo that Phiri went to the woman’s house at midnight and asked for some drinking water. He then entered the house and grabbed the woman by the neck before he finally raped her several times.
The court further heard that his boss was then out for a church services where he spent the night.
The woman testified in court that she opened the door for her husband’s tenant thinking he really wanted some drinking water but was surprised to hear the man saying he had come to deal with her since he had been looking forward to having sex with her.
“He told me that was the only chance for him to fulfil his dreams of having sex with me. When I tried to shout he grabbed me by the neck and raped me several times,” testified Mtambo.
In his defence, Phiri told the court that he was in a love relationship with the woman and that they have been dating each other for some time. He denied having done anything with the woman on the particular day.
Phiri said the woman invited him into his house so that he sleeps with him in the absence of her husband but failed to do so since she demanded some money from him. He further claimed in the court that he is responsible for the woman’s four-month pregnancy.
Other witnesses in court said Phiri admitted having slept with the woman when he was summoned by the chief on the night of the incident.
The magistrate is expected to pass judgement on the case on Friday.
