London-based player agent firm Stellar is reportedly chasing Malawi’s prolific marksman Essau Kanyenda for a 10 percent cut from his pact with Russian top side Rostov FC.
The latest South African top selling soccer magazine Kick Off, reported recently that Kanyenda signed a contract with Stellar prior to his Russian move, which stated that the agency would get a 10 percent cut on any signing-on fee and another 10 percent of the player’s salary if he moved.
However, the Flames hitman argued in a telephone interview from Rostov early this week that the agents are not entitled to any cut because they did not broker the Russian deal.
“It is true there is a deal between me and Stellar which was signed while I was still with Jomo Cosmos in South Africa that they would get a 10 percent cut should they facilitate a deal with any other club. But they did not play any part in the Rostov deal. It was agreed that the clause regarding the 10 percent cut would only apply if they would broker a deal,” explained Kanyenda.
“As I explained to Kick Off, my move to Rostov was solely initiated by Viktor Bondarenko and nobody else...and my team is not aware of any other contracts.”
The player hinted that should Stellar continue to push for payment, he will be forced to engage a lawyer to sort out the issue.
Kanyenda’s local agent Ben Chiwaya regretted the player’s side show without his knowledge.
“I have always advised him to be careful of some of these agents because in the end, such things are bound to happen. It would have been wise for Essau to contact either Jomo Sono or myself before putting pen to paper but unfortunately it seems he was in a hurry after a possible move to Marseille in France flopped,” said Chiwaya.
But he assured that the matter will be sorted out amicably.
