Maduka to leave relegated Bushbucks
by: Garry Chirwa, 6/4/2003, 8:25:16 AM

Former Flames’ driving force John Maduka, whose South African club Bush Bucks has been relegated from the Premier Soccer League (PSL), has said he will quit after a seven-year stint with the team.
“I enjoyed playing for Bush Bucks and I became an integral part of the club. But there always comes a time when you have to make a painful decision.
“It’s like I am ditching the club that I have been part of for all these years but then I don’t think I am ready to play in the lower league. I feel I have made a name for myself and I have to make a move,” explained Maduka.
However, the 33-year-old former Flames skipper said he has not yet found a club.
“As at now I am still contracted to Bush Bucks but I will be meeting them some time next week so that we can sort out contractual matters before deciding where to head to. There are a few clubs that have shown interest but I have not yet committed myself,” said Maduka, adding that his contract is due to expire in 2005.
He described Bush Bucks’ relegation as the saddest experience since he joined the East London-based outfit from Silver Strikers.
“But there is no pressure on me, I am mature enough. I only hope they will do well in the first division and earn promotion back into the top flight league where the team belongs,” he explained.
Apart from being one of the key players for the club, Maduka also helped the team win a few silverware which included the Coca-Cola Cup in the late 90s.
