People of Chibabvi Township Mzuzu Monday morning had a rude awakening when a dog was found eating the body of a newly born baby.
It was an awful sight as the dog run around the township with the infant’s body in its mouth while bewildered residents tried to dispossess it.
An eyewitness Maureen Mkandawire in an interview suspected the baby’s mother must have dumped it after an abortion or that she was trying to conceal the birth of the child by throwing it away.
“As a mother I did not even look twice at the dog with the baby. For others it was dramatic but for me as someone who knows how painful it is to bear a child, it was an abomination and an absolute shame to mankind, especially us women,” she said.
Police in Mzuzu confirmed the incident and said they are tracing the mother.
Head of Criminal Investigations Department Detective Inspector Justin Mkute said his office is investigating the matter and hopes the mother will be arrested soon.
