Police in Nkhotakota last week arrested a form two student at Nkhatakota Secondary School for cheating during the on going Junior Certificate examinations.
The student, Umali Makidadi, 16, and candidate number 118 was found cheating while writing an English paper, but as the candidates were about to tackle the exams, he changed positions to desk no 158 which was vacant.
Nkhotakota police officer-in-charge a Mr Mpuluka said that after getting his paper Makidadi left the examination room to consult a form four student at the school Sylvester Ayabu.
When he returned, a police officer at the school Julio Maruwo became suspicious, searched him and found him with a copy of an essay and answers to some of the examination questions.
“He was arrested on the spot and has since been disqualified from the examinations and is awaiting trial,” Mpuluka said.
He said Ayabu is at large and he might miss this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations.
Deputy headmaster Lino Kamphonda and invigilator Mariam Banda have since confirmed the incident.—Mana
