Harvey Njobvuyalema, a former Reserve of Bank of Malawi (RBM) employee who stabbed his wife to death in February this year, died on Friday at St. Gabriel Clinic in Lilongwe while under prison custody.
According to Lilongwe Police public relations officer Ramsy Mushani, Harvey, a brother to Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Njobvuyalema, complained of general body pains.
“He was on remand and was taken to hospital after complaining about the pains. He was buried yesterday [Saturday],” said Mushani.
He said Harvey’s file was with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who would decide on the case’s way forward.
“It is up to the DPP to decide [on the case] since the accused is dead now,” said Mushani.
Harvey, 40, told The Nation two days after killing his wife, Miyaose, that he murdered her under the influence of demons.
He also disclosed that he was HIV positive.
Harvey, who was working as an estates officer for RBM, was charged with murder.
He hailed from Mkhwambala Village, Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe.
