Beckham to help Aids orphans in Malawi

England soccer star David Beckham says he wants to help the country’s Aids orphans.
Speaking to the BBC Focus on Africa last Thursday, the England star said he decided to help after being touched by the suffering of the kids.
“There are many children out there who’ve lost their mum and dads to HIV and Aids so something this small can make a huge difference,” he told the BBC.
The ex-England football captain is supporting the Shoe Biz Appeal to raise money for Aids orphans in Malawi and will appear on a UK children’s TV programme called Blue Peter to back its latest charity campaign.
He told the BBC that he was backing the campaign as his time as a Unicef goodwill ambassador has shown him the problems that African Aids orphans face.
The appeal target is 500,000 shoes to help set up 22 children’s centres.
According to the BBC, Beckham donated a pair of his own personalised boots and said there was now a chance for them to make a difference off the field.
Beckham’s, football career in Spain hangs in balance after failing to grab first team choice at Real Madrid.
His decision comes just weeks after American pop star Madonna adopted 13-month-old Davie Banda from an orphanage in Mchinji.
