Celtel-Oprah-Night rewards finalists

Tuesday night was the day to remember for women in Lilongwe and Blantyre who had a night of fun and interaction as they imitated Oprah Winfrey’s shows and went away with different prizes.
The event which took place at Cresta Cross Roads Complex Hotel, attracted women from all walks of life shares ideas on how to manage a career despite all odds.
The event which started in Blantyre with sponsorship from Celtel-Malawi, was privileged to have South Africa-based Malawian magazine editor, Taweni Gondwe Xaba to share her working experience with Oprah-host of the world’s leading TV talk-show.
In her testimony, Xaba said working with Oprah was one of her greatest achievements and was all praises for Oprah whom she described as a very down-to-earth, cheerful and compassionate woman.
“It doesn’t matter what greater heights you achieve, but if you were born to be good to others, nothing can change you. Oprah is a very good person. My major lessons from working with her were that you have to be smart and professional,” said Xaba
Among other activities for the night, the women imitated Oprah Talk shows where guests were invited to share their real experiences, Celtel and Oprah Vintage Quiz which required the organisers to ask questions and the audience was given prizes after getting the answers correctly.
The participants of the Oprah Talk shows were divided into three groups where each group was supposed to have three people to act as host (Oprah), a guest and a performer.
Towera Nyirenda Jere who works for ICT Networks was chosen as the best Oprah and went away with a Nokia mobile phone and a picture frame.
Susan Banda of the Privatisation Commission (PC) and Linda Liwimbi of GTZ were chosen the best guest and best performer, respectively and each went away with a flash disk and picture frame.
The event marked the climax of activities to mark the second women manager’s conference which was meant to act a platform for them to share their experiences and challenges in their career life.
