Capital City-based Rhythm and Blues star, Lulu led his band, Mathumela on an entertainment sojourn to Blantyre and came back satisfied with the reception he and his troops received.
“I was happy with the way people patronised the shows. I did not expect them to come in such large numbers,” said Lulu in an interview on Tuesday before saluting the Blantyre fans for patronising the shows.
“This was my first time to perform in Blantyre and the fans had no idea of how I perform. Some thought I would perform by playing a CD and mimicking but still they came and saw me performing live with the band,” he added.
The artist of the Magwiragwira and Mbambande fame had his first performance in the commercial city at Premier Lodge Friday evening before trekking to Country Club Limbe on Saturday evening.
His last and biggest performance was at Country Club Limbe but this time by the poolside on a Sunday afternoon.
“It was a very good show which attracted the highest patronage. I was in particular very impressed by the families that patronised the show. This shows people of different age groups are appreciating my music,” said Lulu who has teamed up with Dan Lufani, the artist behind the hit, Shupie.
In the three shows, songs like Mbambande, Magwiragwira and Ukayendayenda were on high demand and forced patrons to throw themselves onto the dancefloor.
The positive response by Blantyre fans was strong enough to tempt the groups to start arranging for a comeback to the city.
“We are planning to hold other shows in Blantyre during Christmas,” said Lulu who is also producer at Kawale-based Studio 672.
After mesmerising Blantyre R ‘n’ B music lovers, Lulu whose real name is Lawrence Khwisa says Lilongwe fans should get ready because they are next. Mathumela will be performing in the capital this month end.
