Tigers, Tigresses need K1.3m to finish seasons

Admarc Tigers FC and its sister netball club, Admarc Tigresses have said they need about K1.3 million to finish their remaining duties in the K50 million TNM Super League and the K1.1 million Butex Blantyre and District Netball League (BDNL), respectively.
A source at Admarc told Weekend Nation the Tigresses need K1 million for them to ably play all the 12 second round games and defend two trophies—the local Stanbic Bank National Netball Tournament and the Gauteng Club Championship for Southern Africa.
The source also said the Kau Kau boys, on the other hand, need about K300,000 to enable them to play the remaining four games in the second round of the Super League.
“The Tigresses figure is taking into account the costs of defending the Stanbic Bank tournament in November and the Gauteng tournament the following month.
“The money is to be used for transport both during training and matches, upkeep, rental, personal use and game bonuses for wins,” said the Tigresses official.
Tigresses contribute 10 players to the national netball and development teams which recently lifted the Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Associations (Cosana) championship after beating traditional rivals 37-35 South Africa in the competition’s final encounter.
The source said the team is not complaining about uniform because they already have it.
“Any individual or institution willing to help can do so by sponsoring us in one area, such as transport, and as a team, we are ready to change our name and start using their label,” said the source.
The exploits of Admarc Tigers are not a story which needs to be told with special emphasis.
They are a strong team which pulls crowds to the giant Kamuzu Stadium whenever it has been paired against an equally strong team such as MTL Wanderers or Big Bullets.
“We are worried because the management is not showing signs of changing its decisions on the issue,” said one Tigers player, who pleaded for anonymity.
The player’s concern is an honest cry for a team which ousted the popular Big Bullets from the inaugural Fam Cup last year. The team, however, lost to MTL Wanderers on penalty shoot-outs after a goalless draw.
