As the battle for points in the K750,000 Simama Premier League in the Northern Region continues, Nkhata Bay Medicals have for the third week maintained a tight grip on the top spot after seeing off Rumphi Medicals 1-0 on Sunday.
With 23 games played, the hospital’s points have soared to 51, five ahead of second placed Nkhata Bay Police who went down 2-1 to Ekwendeni Medicals. But the cops have a game in hand.
The win meant that the hospital side has kept on the boil its dream of playing in the top flight Super League.
Ekwendeni’s win brought their points to 44—at par with the cops—but the policemen have a better goal aggregate. However, Ekwendeni Medicals stands a better chance of leap-frogging the cops as they have two games in hand.
Raiply were the other big winners as they conquered two Karonga teams at their backyard. They beat relegated Super League side Kradd Eagles 2-0 on Saturday before humbling Karonga Medicals the next day 3-2.
Viphya, Mchenga and Mzuzu University continued to book themselves places in the bottom three as they failed to register wins in their weekend fixtures.
The rest of the results for the weekend games are as follows: Saturday: Kradd 0 Raiply 2, Embangweni United 2 Rumphi Super Eagles 0, Rumphi Medicals 2 Mchenga 1, Escom 1 Mzuni 0, Viphya 0 Prison 0, Ekwendeni Medicals 2 Nkhata Bay Police 1. Sunday: Karonga Medicals 2 Raiply 3, Procaine Bombers 2 Rumphi Eagles 0, Mzuni 1 Embangweni United 1, Ekwendeni United 1 Eagle Strikers 0, Nkhata Bay Medicals 1 Rumphi Medicals 0.
