A primary school teacher in Ntcheu has been arrested for allegedly raping a standard 8 pupil and for attempting to defile a younger sister to the victim, Police have said.
Ntcheu Police public relations officer Gift Matewere said Vaison Manjonjo, 31, who was teaching at Dzoole Primary School raped a 15-year-old girl at around 11 pm when he forced himself into the girls’ bedroom while their parents were away.
“The mother of the girl left for Blantyre on Tuesday. The teacher learnt that the girl was to sleep with her younger sister and he went to the girls’ house at about midnight where he forced the door open, grabbed the girl from her sleeping place, shut her mouth and raped her after taking off her underwear,” said Matewere, adding that the teacher threatened the girl not to reveal the act to anyone.
Matewere added that after finishing with the 15-year-old girl, Manjonjo allegedly attempted to rape the younger sister but was put off upon learning that she was menstruating.
“He left threatening that nobody should know this,” said the Police spokesperson.
The police publicist said the girls reported the matter to their elder sister who took the matter to Ntcheu Police. They were referred to Ntcheu District Hospital where a medical examination confirmed the rape, said Matewere.
He explained that Manjonjo will appear in court soon to take plea and get committed to Ntcheu Prison for full remand awaiting commencement of hearing when a Senior magistrate is identified.
