The Miss Malawi beauty pageant slated for Comesa Hall in Blantyre on August 4 has so far lured 15 hopefuls.
The pageant’s sponsorship director, Paul Kite, said the maximum number of aspirants that can register is 21.
“So we are looking up to getting six more. We will then select 16 out of those 21 and it is those short-listed that will make it for the contest on August 4,” said Kite.
He said “the going has so far been good” and that “a lot of good things have happened towards having a good show”.
“Tickets are selling already. We expect to finalise on posters by this week and we could have done so much by this day if it were not for the [last week’s] holiday,” said Kite, adding that the website through which people will vote for their pick is about to be completed.
“The site: www.missmalawi.net, will soon be ready for people to access. It must be up and running by Monday. It will have pictures and profiles on the contestants so that people are better informed on who is taking part,” said Kite at the weekend.
He said so far companies like Celtel, TNM, and Sobo have already shown interest in sponsoring the show.
The winner, according to the organisers, is poised to get a K600,000 employment contract over the 12 months of her reign, a modelling contract with advertising company Corporate Graphics, a cellphone and airtime.
The first princess will get K300,000 over a period of 12 months taken care of by Unilever, besides a cellphone and airtime.
The second princess will receive K150,000 and a cellphone and airtime too.
