Mtafu claims Bingu a poacher, Bande a drunk

Members of Parliament on Monday resorted to foul language as leader of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the House George Mtafu took to the floor to wind up his response to President Bingu wa Mutharika’s opening speech of the budget session.
Mtafu, who last Friday did not finish his presentation because of time, described President Mutharika as “a poacher, flouting the law by stealing MPs from opposition parties and making them Cabinet ministers.”
“This is theft punishable by the law,” said Mtafu.
Deputy Information Minister and MP for Blantyre City Centre John Bande, standing on a point of order, claimed he has evidence that Mtafu comes to Parliament drunk and after smoking chamba.
“I have evidence that the honourable member takes chamba, and I can’t withdraw my statement,” said Bande.
Mtafu also accused Bande of having a record of drinking in Bangwe, Blantyre.
He also referred to members on the government side as “hooligans”, a statement that prompted Speaker of Parliament Louis Chimango to warn members against the use of foul language in the august House and ordered them to withdraw the unparliamentary language.
