Kasungu woman scoops NBM grand prize | |
By: Ayam Maeresa | |
A Kasungu woman on Tuesday won the grand prize of a colour television screen, satellite decoder and seven months free subscription to DStv in a draw that wound up the National Bank of Malawi’s (NBM) 100 years celebrations competition. The bank’s chief executive officer Tim Barnes drew the biggest and last prize that went to Chrissie Kambauwa, in a competition that has seen a total of 31 television screens, moneygram umbrella and ball point pens, neckties and imported cuff links distributed to lucky winners. Barnes said in an interview after the draw that the event was organised to thank customers for supporting the bank since its establishment by the African Lakes Corporation in 1894. He said the bank, that will hold a “thank you” dinner to wind up the celebrations, was also recognising the different roles shareholders and employees have played in the growth of the bank. About K5 million has been spent on different events pertaining to the celebrations since May 31, said Barnes. “We are thanking our customers, past and present, through this event,” said Barnes, whose bank is among the leaders in the commercial banking sector in the country. After several changes in ownership, the bank now splits shares among conglomerate Press Corporation Limited—the majority shareholder with over 50 percent—Admarc Investments Holdings Limited, Old Mutual and the public. |
