BB coaches told to chop six
by: Garry Chirwa, 5/6/2005, 11:58:02 AM

Bakili Bullets players should be shaking in their boots following a directive by the club’s executive committee to the coaching panel to chop six players, a move described as part of a restructuring exercise by general secretary Willie Phalula.
Phalula said the committee agreed at its recent meeting to cut their bloated squad from the present 28 to 22.
“We have an unnecessarily puffed up squad and in order to cut expenses we have asked the coaches to release six players. The coaches are currently processing the list and it should be ready in a few days time,” said the outspoken Phalula.
He said the players will either be loaned to other interested clubs or be released permanently.
That is not all. Phalula also warned that some of the team’s key players will face the chop because of excessive beer drinking.
“We have established that there are quite a number of players who are drinking like fish. We will be issuing a stern warning to the players and if they don’t change, they will be sacked no matter how good they are.
“We certainly cannot tolerate drunkards in the team. There are some players who give lame excuses and do not report for training so that they can go on a drinking binge. We will not condone such kind of behaviour. They will be given the boot,” explained Phalula.
He added: “If players want to stay in the team, then they have to be disciplined. The stories that we have been hearing about some of our players are very disturbing...we have heard that others get sloshed up to the extent of failing to walk. Can you imagine that?”
However, Phalula could not give a hint of the players who will be put on guard because of excessive drinking.
