Super Escom on Wednesday made it loud and clear that they will not give their coach Stuart Mbolembole the go ahead to join the Flames as team manager, saying his involvement with the national team always affects the performance of the team.
Mbolembole has been retained as team manager in the fresh Flames’ squad which was released on Wednesday and is scheduled to go into camp in Mulanje on Sunday in preparation for the joint World Cup and Africa Nations Cup qualifiers which resume next month.
But Escom’s general secretary Aubrey Mavuka stressed on Wednesday that Mbolembole will not be given the green light for national duty.
“Much as we appreciate that this is a national cause, we will not release Mr Mbolembole because it affects his job as Escom coach.
“One of the contributing factors as to why we performed badly last season was because of his frequent involvement with the Flames and we cannot tolerate it this time around, Fam can as well start looking for his replacement,” said Mavuka.
Fam technical director Eddie Ng’onamo will head the technical panel as coach and he will be assisted by Bakili Bullets coach Kinnah Phiri who has since accepted the offer. The team doctor is Mathews Mangondo.
“They approached me and I told them that I have no problems because it is a national cause. However, Fam will have to get permission from my club who are my employers,” said Kinnah.
Fam released a 26-man squad which does not include all foreign-based players. The team is scheduled to play Zimbabwe in a strength testing game on February 27 at Chichiri Stadium.
Following is the full squad: Goalkeepers: Swadick Sanudi, Simeon Kapuza and Charles Sikwewa; Defenders: Maupo Msowoya, Wisdom Ndhlovu, Petrus Mwalweni, John Kathumba, Itai Nundwe, Godfrey Banda, Charles Beni and Mike Kumanga; Midfielders: Emmanuel Chipatala, Fischer Kondowe, James Chilapondwa, Lawrence Majawa, Hellings Mwakasungula, Moses Chavula, Pritchard Mwansa, Peter Mgangira and Harold Chimombo; Strikers: Malumbo Mkandawqire, Dick Malidadi, Albert Mpinganjira, Victor Phiri and Noel Mkandawire.
