Former regional coach for the North Alex Masanjala was on Saturday appointed interim vice chairman for the Malawi Football Coaches Association (MFCA) until the body holds elections next month.
MFCA secretary general Peterkins Kayira said on Sunday the body’s executive committee meeting decided that Masanjala should replace Patrick Kulemeka who is out of the country.
“We cannot stay without a vice chairman because there are things requiring the attention of that office right now and Masanjala will hold that office up to 18th December when we will hold our AGM in Blantyre,” said Kayira.
He said the elections in Blantyre will be in conformity with the directive by Fam that all affiliates should hold fresh elections by December 31.
“All registered coaches who have paid their membership fees for this year should attend. There will be no nominations and all those who want to contest for various positions should just carry their academic certificates. Only those with MSCE and above will contest,” he said.
Kayira said the coaches’ body is insisting on a minimum qualification of MSCE because the next step for its officials would be Fam which has that minimum qualification.
“We want to groom them at affiliate level,” he said, adding that the executive committee agreed that there should be no nominations to avoid campaigning.
“Ours is a professional group and we know each other. So there is no need for campaigning,” he added.
Kayira said he would be writing Fam requesting for an official to preside over the December 18 poll.
