Under—20 squad camps in Mulanje
by Oris Chimenya, 11 November 2004 - 11:11:35
The Under-20 quad, which was supposed to camp at the usual Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu, is now at the Mulanje View Motel and is training at the Esperance Tea Estate ground.
The camp, which was supposed to start last Saturday, began on Tuesday because the technical committee thought that two weeks would be enough, according to Football Association of Malawi (Fam) general secretary Roosevelt Mpinganjira.
“The technical panel, headed by Kinnah Phiri (coach) recommended to us that 14 days would be enough and we just changed the camp dates.
“We have also moved the camp from Kamuzu Academy because the owners of the campus will want their premises on the 18th this month [November] when we will still be in camp,” said Mpinganjira.
He also said the camping in Mulanje would be of much convenience since the junior Flames would leave for the regional showcase from Blantyre.
The 26-man squad, which has Civo United coach Willow Mihowa as the assistant coach, is expected to participate in an Under-20 Cosafa tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa from November 26 to December 6.
Meanwhile, government has assured Fam of funding due to the condition that failure to participate, would mean banishment from participating in the senior annual Cosafa Castle Cup showcase.
