IMF Africa chief in next week
by Gedion Munthali, 05 November 2004 - 15:14:05

IMF’s Africa Department director Abdoulaye Bio Tchane will visit Malawi next week.
Tchane, currently touring some African countries, will during his visit meet President Bingu wa Mutharika, among other local authorities.
The West African is coming at a time when Malawi is under an IMF staff monitored programme.
He took over from Malawian Goodall Gondwe, who now heads Treasury, once he retired a couple of years ago.
President Bingu wa Mutharika appointed Gondwe, who once served a president of the African Development Bank, Minister of Finance, after serving his predecessor Bakili Muluzi as economic advisor.
Meanwhile, the IMF mission will also be in Malawi from Tuesday next week to continue with their assessment of the country’s microeconomic performance since it was put under the programme.
Led by mission chief John Green, the mission will be in the country between November 9 and 23, 2004.
